Spyware Stormer by Spyware Stormer Inc. is basic anti-spyware software that is easy to use and comes with plenty of online support. The major setbacks: false positives and missing features.
Feature Set:
Spyware Stormer offers important features like Real-Time Tracking and indication of spyware severity, but the program does not offer spyware descriptions, which help you determine if spyware found is dangerous, or a scan scheduler-a feature that lets you run scans while you're away from your computer.
Effectiveness:
When we tested for spyware, the program detected many false positives. False positives are programs on your computer that are not spyware or adware programs; deleting these can cause serious harm to your computer system. Since Spyware Stormer does not offer any spyware descriptions, using this program makes it difficult for you to know which detected programs are spyware and which are not.
Ease of Use:
We found Spyware Stormer easy to use. The design is similar to most spyware programs available today, offering the choice between Scan, Update and Advanced categories.
Customization:
Spyware Stormer doesn't offer much customization, but you can opt to have the program open on Windows startup to protect your computer as you work online.
Ease of Setup:
Spyware Stormer installation is different than with other programs; you must first download the trial version and register the product before downloading and installing the full version.
Help/Support:
All of Spyware Stormer's help is web-based, including a FAQs page, an online help section and email support. We received several fast email responses, but these were automated responses that simply let us know our email had been received. Although these tools are helpful, we feel Spyware Stormer should include offline help support as well.
Summary:
Spyware Stormer Inc. has the makings of a great spyware program as Spyware Stormer since itâs easy to install and use, but the false positives and unattractive marketing we found on the Spyware Stormer website (including popups÷something this software is supposed to protect against) are reasons we gave it such a low rating.
